WHAT ARE ALL ON 4 IMPLANTS?

If you want a natural-looking smile and are ready to enjoy your favorite foods again, All-on-4 offers a life-changing solution—with fixed teeth placed the same day and no need to remove them like traditional dentures.

All-On-4 Dental Implant Process

Placement

Dental examination list

After your treatment has been approved, our team will schedule your oral surgery and create a detailed surgical plan. Dr. Kerns will make small openings in the gums and securely place four dental implants into the jawbone at strategic angles. Once the implants are in place, the area will be cleaned and sutured to begin the healing process. You’ll leave surgery with a secure, natural-looking set of temporary teeth the very same day.

Healing & Osseointegration

Dental implant

After your All-on-4 surgery, your gums and jawbone will begin to heal. The incision areas typically heal within 1–2 weeks, while the implants will fuse with your jawbone over 3–6 months through a process called osseointegration. During this phase, we’ll schedule follow-up visits to monitor healing and ensure everything is progressing smoothly.

Applying the restoration

Dental implant restoration

Once the implants have fully integrated with your jaw, we’ll place your final restoration—a custom-designed full arch of teeth. Unlike a single crown, this restoration replaces all missing teeth in the upper or lower arch and is securely attached to the implants. It’s crafted to look natural, feel comfortable, and function just like real teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

All-on-4 implants are fixed in place and don’t need to be removed. Unlike traditional dentures, they won’t slip or shift while you eat or speak. They look and feel more like natural teeth and help preserve your jawbone over time.

Yes—terms like All-on-4, full mouth implants, fixed full arch, hybrid dentures, and implant-retained dentures are often used interchangeably. They all refer to a treatment that replaces an entire arch of missing teeth using dental implants to support a fixed set of prosthetic teeth. While the terminology may vary, the concept is the same: a permanent, stable, and natural-looking solution for full-mouth restoration.

Both All-on-4 and All-on-6 use dental implants to support a full arch of replacement teeth—the main difference is the number of implants used. All-on-4 uses four implants, while All-on-6 uses six. In general, All-on-6 may offer added stability and support for patients with enough bone density, but both are highly effective, long-lasting options. Your dentist will help determine which is the better fit for your specific needs during your consultation.

The procedure itself typically takes a few hours—and the best part is you’ll leave the same day with a brand-new set of teeth. While healing continues over the next few months, your new smile is fully functional right away.

Most patients return to normal activities within a day or two. Some tenderness and swelling are normal at first, but they typically subside quickly. You’ll be given easy-to-follow instructions to help your healing go smoothly.
